Aspiration Week
We have been really lucky this week to have lots of guests come to speak to us about their jobs. They have explained to us what they did to get their job, what the benefits are and explained to us about working hard to achieve our dreams. We have listened to Police Officers and even got to go in a Police car, a dental nurse, a vet, a fire fighter, a chef, a hair dresser and a horse riding instructor.
Jubilee Celebrations
We have had lots of fun this week celebrating the Queen's 70th Jubilee. We have made crowns, drawn pictures of the Queen, designed jubilee pebbles, made and decorated a beautiful Union Jack cake which we enjoyed eating!
WC 16.5.22
English
We have been looking at the traditional tale of Jack and the Beanstalk. We have sequenced events and answered questions about the story. We have also looked at plurals. We learnt that plural means more than one. We looked at the rules for adding s and es to nouns.
Maths
This week, we have been looking at fractions. We looked at finding half and learnt that you will have two equal parts if you cut something in half. To show this we cut a cake in half to share with our partner. We got to eat the cake too so we were very accurate with our cutting! We practised halving numbers by sharing counters into two equal parts.
Art
In Art, we loved working in the style of Ellie Roden. We used the flowers that we pressed at home to create beautiful flower collages. Do you like our pictures?

This week in DT we made coleslaw. We have been learning to use graters, peelers, safety knives and an apple cutter safely. We followed instructions and listened carefully to the steps to make coleslaw. We we really excited to harvest our cress and use it in our coleslaw. We tried our coleslaw and discussed whether we liked the flavours.
Maths
This week in Maths we have been learning to double numbers. We used a doubling machine to help us. We used lots of different equipment to find doubles. We wrote number sentences in our books. We worked hard to put one number in each square and present our work neatly.
We have also been learning to share a given number in groups. We have used our knowledge of 2s, 5s and 10s to help us do this. We used counters to support our understanding with this.
Have a look at us learning in action!
Art
This week we have been exploring the artisits Ellie Roden and David Hockley. We looked at different pieces of artwork from both artisits and discussed our thoughts and opinions on their techniques and style. We had a class vote on who we preffered.

This week in English we have been using our knowledge of instructions to write our own. We have planned, written and edited our work and are looking forward to writing them up in our best so we can send them home! We will be sending home our instructions and a pack of seeds for you to follow instructions and plant at home.
WC 2.5.22
In English, we have been looking at instructions. We established that the purpose of of instructions are to explain how to complete a task. Miss Drury showed us an origami bookmark and told us to make it but we were confused and frustrated as she didn't give us the instructions. We then tried again with the instructions and we were able to make the bookmarks. Can you follow the instructions in the video?
Maths
We have continued our work on counting in 2s, 5s and 10s this week. We have started to look at arrays which is where objects are set out in rows and columns of equal amounts. We practised making our own arrays using counters. Can you think of any arrays at home?
Science
As part of our plant topic, we have planted cress seeds. We have learnt that plants need sunlight and water to grow. We wondered what would happen if the seeds had no water, too much water or no sunlight so we decided to put a pot in a dark cupboard and give different amounts of water to the seeds. Which plants do you think will grow best?

Science
Our topic this term is plants. This week, we have identified the different parts of plants (which we were very good at) and learnt about the function of each part.

This week in History we have been learning about significant women from the past. We learnt how to use pictures from the past to gather evidence and make predictions about who they are and why they may be significant. We then looked at Amelia Earheart and learnt that she was the first women pilot to cross the Atlantic Ocean. We made our own posters about her life.

In Maths, we have been investigating capacity. We enjoyed filling cups with water and filling them with different amounts. We used the words, full, almost full, almost empty and empty to describe the capacity. We also made comparisons saying which container has more or less. Take a look at our pictures exploring full, half full, half empty, nearly full nearly empty!
