Thursday 16th December

This week we have used our DT skills to make Christmas pizzas! We followed the instructions carefully making the dough first by measuring all the ingredients, mixing and then kneading the dough to form a ball. We then shaped the dough into our chosen Christmas design shape. Our pizza toppings were then added before they went into the oven to bake. They smelt amazing! We hope they tasted as good as they looked!

Wednesday 8th December

Today, we designed and created our own Christmas decoration using wooden lolly sticks. We thought about the number of sticks we would like to use, the shape we would like to place these in, how we would join these together and how we would decorate our decoration.

Betty Campbell

Today the children have been learning all about Betty Campbell and what she has done for Black rights.

Betty Campbell was the first Black headteacher in Wales. She was then able to make important changes to the curriculum to ensure that Black culture and Black history were being taught. She was honoured for this by sculptor Eve Shepherd and now has a statue in Cardiff that was unveiled in 2021. The children have learnt some facts about Betty Campbell and have then had a go at recreating her statute using play dough.

Have a look at some of their wonderful creations below!

Tuesday 30th November

In Science, continuing our Material topic, we explored objects made from different materials to see if their shape could be changed.  We twisted, stretched, squashed and bent each and recorded the results in a table.  Afterwards, we compared the materials and their properties and discussed whether the results were as we expected.

The Diary of Samuel Pepys

Today the children had a go at pretending to be Samuel Pepys and writing a diary entry for Sunday 2nd September 1666. They wrote on old paper using pens and even got to sign his name using a feather and ink! Have a look at them in action.

Friday 19th November

Turtles thoroughly enjoyed coming into school in their casual clothing and pyjamas to raise money for Children in Need.  We also had a wonderful time watching the Aladdin pantomime.

Tuesday 9th November

We started our new Science topic today all about Materials. The children began by identifying everyday materials including wood, metal, plastic, glass, paper, rock, brick, cardboard etc and looking at their particular uses. We discussed how the same material can be used for a number of different things, for example metal can be used for coins, keys, cars, cans and bridges. The children used vocabulary such as: hard, soft, stretchy, stiff, shiny, dull, rough, smooth, bendy, absorbent, not absorbent, waterproof, transparent, opaque, strong, hard, flexible etc. to describe the materials properties. These materials were taken from our material hunt.

The Great Fire of London!

Today we have been learning all about the Great Fire of London, look at some of our lovely work.

Key facts we learnt:

The fire started on Sunday 2nd September 1666

It burned for 5 days

It started in Thomas Farriner's bakery on Pudding Lane

The people kept safe by waiting for the fire to go out in boats on the Thames

Houses were destroyed to stop the fire.

We learnt about how easy it was for the fire to spread and what this event in history has done for us.
