Week 2

This week in English, we wrote instructions of how to grow cress seeds. We followed the instructions and planted our own cress seeds to make a cress head. We can't wait for it to grow so it looks like we have hair!

SUMMER - Week 1

We have been looking at features of instruction texts. We learnt about imperative (bossy) verbs which tell us what we need to do. We followed the instructions to make sunflower fork paintings.

Week 5

This week we had our class assembly and thought you would like to see the photos from our Boydell farm trip which we shared!

Spring 2 Week 4

In DT this week, we have practised our finger fluency skills e.g. spreading, grating, peeling, cutting using fork secure and the bridge. We then used our plan to make our wrap, we then ate our wrap, redesigned our wrap, made a new improved wrap and then ate that one as well!

Spring 2 Week 3

On Thursday this week it was International Maths Day! We went on a scavenger hunt around school looking for all things Maths related and we also purchased yummy biscuits with real money!

Spring 2 Week 2

This week was House Day and World Book Day! We enjoyed lots fo activities including listening to lots of Julia Donaldson stories, doing Julia Donaldson dances in PE and a Julia Donaldson quiz!

Spring 2 - Week 1

Maths

This week, we have started looking at numbers to 50. We enjoyed playing bingo and snakes and ladders which helped us to practise reading the numbers.

Computing

We have been learning how to touch type in computing. We have focused on the home keys and tried to use the correct fingers to press the keys and use our thumbs to press the space bar.

We loved using the touch type dance mat so if you have a laptop at home here is the link so you can practise.

WEEK 6

ART

This week, we have been practising the skill of continuous line drawings. We spent 5 minutes silently drawing exactly what we could see on a shell then we added some primary colours. We then added a water wash over the top. From our work last week we knew that the colours would mix to make secondary colours.

WEEK 5

Mental Health Week

We have spent time talking about what mental health is and how we can look after it. The children thought of things which help their mental health and drew them in a spiral e.g. family, friends, football, push ups, walking their dog, dancing, going to the park.

R.E.

In R.E., we have been thinking about celebrations and how they bring communities together. This week we looked at how Muslim communities visit a mosque to pray. We took a virtual tour of a mosque and pretended that we were there so we had to remove our shoes and was our hands. We spent some time reflecting quietly about what we are thankful for.

Week 4

Music

In Music, we explored the different sounds the percussion instruments make and how they can be used to represent different things.  We chose different instruments to make the sounds in a space story.

Week 3

In Art, we have been learning about primary colours and how we can use these to make secondary colours. We made and printed colour wheels to demonstrate this.

Week 2

PE

In P.E., we have been looking at invasion games and sending and receiving the ball. This week, we looked at manipulating the ball with our hands to understand how it moves so that we can control the ball better. We have continued to think about attacking and defending and making accurate passes.

Week 1

Art

We have continued our spiral work this week by making beautiful spiral snails. The children experimented with a mixture of soft pastels and oil pastels; and tried to smudge the colours to blend them together. We hope you like them as much as we do.

Art

This week, we have been investigating spirals. We listened to music and moved in a spiral. We then drew spirals with chalk in the playground making sure the line was continuous. We then drew spirals in our sketch books to thinking about how the movement flowed through the hand, wrist, elbow and shoulder.

Christmas Concert

We are so proud of all of the children's performances in the Christmas Concert, they were amazing! Thank you for helping the children learn the words and finding costumes.

RE

In RE, we looked at why Christingles are often used at Christmas. We made our own Christingles and learnt the the cocktail sticks and sweets represent the seasons, the orange represents the word, the ribbon symbolises Gods love and Jesus' blood and the candle is the light of God.

English

In English, we looked at the story Giraffes Can't Dance. We discussed how the characters were feeling at different points of the story and why. We then had a go at acting out different characters. Can you guess how they were feeling?

Week 3

Today we wore odd socks to think about what makes us unique and special! We loved dancing in our socks. We designed our own socks too, and thought about our favourite things. We looked at Bullying and things we can do to stop it!

Remembrance Day

We learning about Remembrance Day and took part in a minute silence. We enjoyed making a variety of poppies during learning choices.

Art

This week, we drew flowers over the top of the hand and footprint backdrop we painted last week. We used black pens to draw the flowers to make them standout against the backdrop. We think they look beautiful!

Art

This week, we started our new art project. It was great fun as we printed with our hands and feet ready to make our flower gardens.

RE

In RE today we talked about how to care for the world God created. We then went out to litter pick on the school field – we found so much rubbish. This is one way we can care for our world. Look at how well we did tidying up!

Science

In science, we have been exploring our sense of taste and smell. The children enjoyed tasting a range of sweet, salty, spicy, and sour foods and learnt about where the different taste buds are on the tongue. They also enjoyed smelling the mystery scents and trying to guess what they were.

Week 5

In History we looked at toys from the past and how they are different from the toys we have today. We sorted toys into old and new and then drew pictures of an old toy and a new toy. We talked about the materials they were made of. We then explored the old toys during tops time!

Week 4

For RE we had a special visitor, Mrs Hale, who came to talk to us about what life used to be like when she was growing up. She brought in an old telephone, books, a doll, wooden blocks, negatives and black and white photos, old cars and lego, which we enjoyed looking at and comparing to what we have now.

In DT the children have been making their own framed structures. They have been learning the vocabulary beams, columns and slabs to help describe their designs.

In music this week we used the instruments to help us keep the beat. We listened to lots of nursery rhymes and clapped along to the beat, making sure not to speed up or slow down. We then used the drums and maracas to play along with the beat.

Week 3

In PE we are learning to roll with aim and precision. We practised first by rolling to each other, then played a game called aliens and astronauts, where the astronauts have to dodge the rolling 'asteroids' thrown by the aliens. Then we practised aiming at a target and if we knocked off the ball, we got a point!

Week 2

In RE this week, we discuss the question 'Who made the world?'. The children had so interesting ideas ranging from God to builders to Santa. We talked about how Christian's believe God made the world and the nature on it. We went to Maisie's Garden to see what nature we could find and then discussed how we could look after the world.

Week One

Today we learnt what to do in an emergency! We must stay calm, shout for help and if it doesn't come shout FIRE! The children role played phoning 999 and answering questions. They also practised cleaning a graze and putting a plaster on a toy.
