Geography Curriculum

White Court School Geography Intent

Through structured and sequentially planned lessons, we offer all children at White Court School the opportunity to gain a broad and deep understanding of the four areas of Geography identified in the National Curriculum. The children’s journey throughout the key stages will develop contextual knowledge of the location of globally significant places and an understanding of the processes that bring about the key physical and human features of the world, along with how they bring variation over time. We aspire to provide all children with a wealth of knowledge, understanding and vocabulary linked to ‘their world’ which will incite curiosity and a desire to explore the world around us in a mindful and respectful manner, for the rest of their lives. The lessons are intended to improve children’s geographical vocabulary, map skills and geographical facts whilst providing opportunities to interpret and analyse a range of geographical information collated both within the classroom setting and through practical activities using field studies.
