Autumn Term 2
Over the past couple of weeks, we have had lots fun completing Christmas activities.
Bears have loved coming in every morning to find out what Twinkleshine Ted has been up to.
We have enjoyed lots of different Christmas Crafts, including: making pasta wreaths, designing our own Christmas cards and making lollipop snowmen.
We wrote letters to Santa in English and enjoyed walking to the post box to post them. We enjoyed looking at the Christmas decorations on the way.
This week in Maths we have introduced subtraction. We have been learning to tell subtraction stories with our talk partners using practical objects. We have learnt how to write a subtraction number sentence using symbols. Take a look at some of our practical work this week!
This week, we created our own story based on Penguin. We became the main character and we used a lucky dip to choose the animal that was in the present. We are getting really good at included adjectives in our sentences!
We had a great time watching the pantomime! We really enjoys the singing and dancing and had great fun joining in.
This week in English we have been focusing on the book 'Penguin' by Polly Dunbar.
We have learning to rewrite the story using pictures as prompts.
We have focused on including adjectives to describe.
Next week we will be innovating (changing) the characters to create our own story.
Have a look at the story using the below video.
Our New Topic is Amazing Animals! We have been learning the different continents in the world! To start off our topic we brainstormed what we already knew. Bear class knew lots about the world. We will be learning to name the 7 continents and link them to different landscapes, whether they are hot or cold countries and the types of animals that might live there. We have enjoyed learning this song at school.
Parent Event 15.11.21
Thank you to everyone that attend Bears Active Learning Parent Event! It was great to invite you into our classroom and for the children to show off their learning environment and amazing classroom! We had so much fun learning in a fun and active way. We hope you all learnt lots of new ways to engage your child in learning at home.
Odd Sock Day
This week we celebrated Odd Sock Day! This event is dedicated to celebrating how everyone is unique and the focus this year was 'One Kind Word'. Bears loved wearing their odd socks to school and enjoyed playing kind word tennis.
This week we have been learning about Remembrance Day. We know that it is on the 11th day of the 11th month at 11am.
We also learn that poppies are worn on Remembrance Day because they are the flowers which grew on the battlefields after the First World War ended.
We created our own poppies in school!
In English, we have been learning about adjectives (describing words). We have looked at the story 'The Wild Things' and used the pictures to write descriptive sentences.
We have also been working hard to improve our handwriting. So far we have learnt how to form ladder letters (ltiuyj) and curly caterpillar letters (coadesf) in a cursive style. The video below will help you to practise forming your letters correctly.
This week, Bears have been learning number bonds to 10. We learnt a rhyme to help us to remember which 2 numbers make 10 when added together!
We have also been learning how to represent number bonds to 10 in different ways. We have focused on part part whole models, tens frames and bar models! Here is some of the work we completed together...
We are now able to write number sentences for our number bonds to 10!
Once we were confident we worked independently!
This week in science we have been learning to sort animals into groups by identifying and naming them! We learnt there are 6 animals groups:
We learnt to sort them into groups and identify their characteristics to help us sort them.
Autumn Term 1
During our class turn around in July, Tiger Club turned themselves into Bears and they are now hiding in the bear cave in our classroom!
During Autumn 1 we have learnt all about ourselves through our Topic 'This is Me!'
Look at our fantastic Art!
What have Bears been learning in Maths this half term?
This half term we have been focusing on Place Value to 10 as well as Addition and Subtraction to 10.
We have been learning to represent numbers in different ways. Have a look at our Working Wall!
Take a look at this video to explain some of our learning and how you can recap place value at home.
We have also been looking at Addition and Subtraction to 10 using Part Part Whole Models.
Our STEM sentences have been;
_____ is a part, _____ is a part, _____ is the whole number.
The STEM sentence for the below Part Part Whole Model would be;
4 is a part, 2 is a part, 6 is the whole number.
We then worked on using colour codes to write addition sentences. This really helped us to see how the numbers can be swapped around to make fact families.
What have Bears been learning in English?
This half term we have been focusing on creating fantastic sentences using a writing checklist. We have used the below symbols to help us to write.
Our focus stories have been:
The Colour Monster
Please see the links below to recap these stories and read them with family members.
This half term we have introduced the children to our Jigsaw scheme. We have met Jigsaw Jack and introduced him to our class.
Meet Jack! We love having him in our classroom- he stays in our reading area and we often read him stories.
This half term we have been focusing on 'Being Me' and understanding who we are, our rights within our classroom and outlining rules and expectations to become effective learners.
We have all signed our Jigsaw Charter which outlines our expectations. We recap this every time we have a Jigsaw lesson and use the charter in other areas of our learning too.
We have a class floor book which contains all of our learning in PSHE this half term. We have learnt to be Bucket Fillers! Please watch the video below of the story we focus upon in school.
