Reading in Year 2

In Year 2, we encourage reading in lots of different ways. We incorporate reading comprehension sessions in a sequence of writing units and have stand alone lessons. We complete Guided Reading sessions four times a week and usually look at a text for a couple of weeks (you can find the text in the weekly section of the Learning Journey). We have DEAR (drop everything and read) time and enjoy exploring lots of different books. We also use echo reading when reading texts in our topic work and even in Maths, when reading aloud problems.

During comprehension sessions, we use the reading skill dogs to focus on different skills.
