Our Spelling Scheme
At White Court School we use a spelling scheme called No Nonsense Spellings across all year groups from Years 2-6. The spelling work in Early Years and Year 1 is built into their Phonics scheme. The focus of the programme is on the teaching of spelling, which embraces knowledge of spelling conventions – patterns and rules; but integral to the teaching is the opportunity to promote the learning of spellings, including statutory words, common exceptions and personal spellings.
The programme consists of the following elements:
- The requirements of the National Curriculum, which have been organised into strands and then broken down into termly overviews.
- 5 lesson types included in the structure to allow our children at White Court Schoool to progress through their spelling education: Revise/Teach/Learn/Practise/Apply/Assess.
