PE - Defending and Attacking

Week Beginning 4th November

Christmas has come early!  We have been busy designing our own Christmas cards.  Your child's design can be made into unique Christmas cards and gifts - keep an eye out for communication from Friends of White Court.

Christmas has come early!

Week beginning 14th October

This week we enjoyed a visit from a geologist. She told us all about her job and we looked at some of her rocks and even saw some fossils. She answered lots of our questions and we also had the chance to try on a hard hat and hi-viz jacket and look at her geologists hammer.

In Art this week, we have used the skills we have developed in our sketch books to create our own cave paintings. We used charcoal, chalk and pastels and focused really hard to follow the style of ancient cave painters.

Week beginning 7th October 2024

In Science, we created our own fossils.

Cast fossil - A cast fossil is made when minerals and sediment fill in the spaces left behind when an organism buried in the rock has rotted away and disappeared. This makes an exact replica (or cast) of the original organism.

We made our cast fossil using playdough. We pushed a shell into the playdough so that it made an imprint. We took out the shell then poured in plaster of Paris. This left us with a cast of our shell.

Amber Fossil – An amber fossil is made when tiny creatures become trapped in sticky tree resin. Over many years, this becomes hard and creates a stone called amber. You may find the preserved remains of an organism in some pieces of amber.

We made our cast fossil using orange jelly to represent the resin and a sweet to represent the creature that was preserved in the resin.

Week beginning 30th September

Stone Age Extravaganza

Today the children found a Stone Age Tent pitched on our field. We entered through an archway of ancient paintings, and emerged into another world. The floor was lined with the skins of hunted animals, walls painted with scenes from ancient times, and everywhere you looked you could see, skulls, spears, baskets, tools, and everyday objects from thousands of years ago

Twig and Kilt, real life cave people, our Stone Age experts spent the day with us and taught us all about life in the Stone Age and the skills and abilities it took to survive. Such as how to start a fire, stone age food and gutting fish, and how to use rocks to create flint.

Back in class we made jewellery out of salt dough and modelled them on teeth, bones and shells found in the Stone Age. We also made origami woolly mammoths and Stone Age huts!

Stone Age Extravaganza

This week in PE we have been perfecting our balances and creating routines.

We are becoming amazing touch typers!

Week beginning 23rd September 2024

This week in Science we looked at different types of rocks. We tested the rocks to see their different qualities using coins to scratch and water to test whether they were permeable and if they floated. We were surprised when we found a rock that floated!

Science Investigation

PE This week we have been practising different jumps and balancing on points and patches.
