Spring 1 - Week 2
As a part of our 'Take One Piece' focus this term, we have been looking at JMW Turner. This week, we recreated his piece 'Snow Storm'. We printed using paint and made our own little boats to complete the picture. Take a look at our recreations!
Spring 1 - Week 1
In English, we will be writing a losing story. We have been looking at the story of Traction Man who loses his trusty sidekick, Scrubbing Brush! Part of our learning was thinking about how different characters show their feelings. We acted out how Traction Man felt at different parts of the story.
Can you guess the different emotions from our pictures?
Autumn 2 - Week 6 - DT Day!
Today we had a DT day, which involved creating our own solid structures. We experimented with making strong and stable structures at the start of the day using blocks, Lego, cubes and plastic cups. We then learnt about the difference between natural and man-made structures. We finished the day by designing and making our own solid structures - bridges out of sugar cubes!
Autumn 2 - Week 6
In RE, we have been learning about Advent. Take a look at our Advent Wreaths!
Autumn 2 - Week 5
Take a look at our cards for the Christmas Card Campaign.
Autumn 2 - Week 5
In Maths, we have been looking at shape. We have been learning the names and properties of both 2D and 3D shapes. Today we had a go at comparing 3D shapes. We created a venn diagram using hoops and sorted 3D shapes based on their different properties. We had lots of fun doing this!
Autumn 2 - Week 4
In PSHE, we learnt about bullying and why it may happen. We read some different scenarios and decided whether they were examples of bullying or not.
During the lesson, we learnt that:
- It doesn't just happen once: it goes on over time and happens again and again.
- It is deliberate: hurting someone on purpose, not accidentally.
- It is unfair.
- It can happen as a result of someone being different to the bully.
We ended our lesson by writing down one word to describe how it might feel to be the person being bullied. We noticed that all of our words were very similar - they were all negative.
Take a look at some of our words below...
Autumn 2 - Week 3
Over the last couple of weeks, we have been looking at a book called 'The Disgusting Sandwich' with the goal of writing instructions on how to make our very own disgusting sandwich! This week we have been writing our instructions; however, to do this, we had to make them! Take a look at our truly horrible sandwiches...
Autumn 2 - Week 2
Odd Socks Day is an annual event that takes place to mark the start of Anti-Bullying Week. The day is a celebration of diversity, acceptance, and inclusion, and encourages people to wear mismatched socks to show that it's okay to be different. We talked about our differences and discussed the importance of being respectful. We then designed our own socks to highlight why we are unique.
Autumn 2 - Week 1
This term, we have started a unit of Geography. We have started by looking at the United Kingdom and the four countries it is made up of. At home, you could test your children with these questions...
What are the four countries that make up the United Kingdom?
Can you name their capital cities?
Autumn 1 - Week 8
In PE this term, we have been doing gymnastics. We have been learning about different jumps, rolls and balances. Today, we worked in pairs to do some partner balances. We persevered, even though some of them were very tricky!
Autumn 1 - Week 7
Today in Science we learnt about John McAdam and investigated how to build the strongest road. We had 3 ingredients to use: chocolate, raisins and biscuits. Using these ingredients, we then made three different roads:
- Chocolate
- Chocolate and biscuits
- Chocolate, biscuits and raisins
We predicted which road was the strongest and then tested the strength of our roads using weights. Which road do you think was the strongest?!
Autumn 1 - Week 6
As a school, we complete an Art challenge called 'Take One Piece'. This is where we look at a particular artist and each class creates a piece of art work inspired by them. Take a look at the pieces we created inspired by Franz Marc!
Autumn 1 - Week 5
We have been looking at the story of Mr Benn in English. We are going to be writing our own versions of the story, choosing a new costume and adventure! Last Friday, we designed and created our new Mr Benn costumes. This week, we have been writing statements about them.
Autumn 1 - Week 4
This week, Year 2 worked collaboratively with Year 5 to create a 3D display inspired by the book ‘Colour Monster’. Each child worked as part of a small group to create a 3D sculpture of a different colour monster. Our job was to to do the building at the beginning of the day!
Autumn 1 - Week 3
In Science, we have been learning about materials. Today we compared the strength of four different materials - paper, card, wood and tin foil. We did this by working in teams to build bridges. Once we had finished building them, we tested them by balancing cubes on top. All of our bridges were strong enough to hold the whole tray of cubes!
Autumn 1 - Week 2
Our unit in Art this term is 'Collectors and Explorers'. Last week, we looked at different artists who find inspiration from the world around them. They collect objects from the natural environment and turn them into art. This week, we did this ourselves. We took a trip down to Forest School to collect sticks, leaves, flowers and stones. The children came back and worked in pairs to create their own pattern. Take a look at what they made!
Autumn 1 - Week 1
We had a great first day and all the children settled well into their new classroom. This afternoon we looked at the Zones of Regulation. We talked about all of our different feelings and times we have felt Blue, Green, Red or Yellow. We then sorted the feelings into the zones. We talked about ways to make us feel calm and how to “get back to the green zone”.
