Summer 2
Week 6 - The children had a wonderful time at Sports Day on Monday. Well done to everyone for taking part - a brilliant effort from all! In Maths we have been learning all about time. We have been ordering the months of the year, having running races and using a stop watch to time how fast we are in minutes and seconds, using an hour timer on the interactive board so we know how long an hour is, and working in pairs using clocks to show o'clock times. Finally, we enjoyed listening to some stories as a year group in the shade.
Week 5 - In English we have been looking at fairytales (ready to write our own fairytale next week!) Today we chose our favourite fairytale and wrote about why we love it. In Science it was just too hot to work in the classroom! So we took our whiteboard, worksheets and pencils outside and worked in the shade and the children LOVED it! In PE we played some team building games in the shade, seeing which team could accurately throw the bean bag into the hoop with the hoop getting further and further away making it much trickier!
Week 4 - In PSHE we have loved celebrating our differences and uniqueness on Rainbow Day today. We enjoyed rainbow fruit snacks (thank you Arthur!) while listening to the story 'The Rainbow Flamingo'. We enjoyed a picnic on the field with the whole school and we all had a delicious icepop for desert. It was lovely to see the children's rainbow cake and cookie creations. In PE the children have been practicing their jumping skills. In DT we designed our own slider mechanism and this week we made them and are very proud of our hard work. We then completed a galloping gallery to showcase our work and shared what we liked about a friends slider mechanism. In forest school we enjoyed exploring and working together in the shade - Isla and Lola decided to build a beautiful birds nest.
Week 3 - In Maths we are learning to partition into tens and ones so we worked in pairs using practical resources to make part whole models. In PE, in our athletics topic, we enjoyed games to help us start running quickly (to help our races on sports day) and using our bodies to change direction. In PSHE the children LOVED guessing who the baby photo was, and then enjoyed talking about how they have changed since their baby photo. In English the children have been researching, planning and writing their own pirate factfile and on Friday we got to share our factfiles with Year 3 Giraffe class. We then listened carefully to their triumphant story.
Week 2 - In Science we experimented with waterproof materials, made predictions and tested the results. We used different materials - tin foil, plastic bag, paper and fabric - to see which would be waterproof and keep the teddies dry! We then drew and labelled a house for our teddy with the most appropriate, waterproof material. In PE we enjoyed practicing our balancing skills. In DT this week we made a curvy slider mechanism with a movable pirate ship.
Week 1 - This week in Design and Technology the children really enjoyed making their own pop up pirate using a slider mechanism. In PE we have been focusing on fitness through athletics and they especially loved the running races! In Maths we have been learning how to describe different positions - to the left or to the right, and different turns - quarter, half, three quarter and full turn. Today the children worked in pairs to give instructions using this positional language. In Science we have been learning about how wind would effect different materials just like the story The Three Little Pigs. Today we made houses out of straw, paper and bricks, made predictions and tested the theories by putting a fan on our creations. It was lots of fun! On Friday we had our first forest school and we loved it but didn't get as much time there as we wanted due to the downpour of rain! What a busy week we've had!!
