Whilst the others have been at Flatford, we have been busy too. Learning about angles and making 3D shapes with different nets in Maths, learning about John Constable and making presentations. In Geography, we have completed a case study about the river Thames and made a poster and in Art we continued the Typography unit, making letters and words with things found in nature.
Road Safety session
Year 5 have had a visit from the Safer Essex Road Partnership. The students learnt about the sort of dangers they will face as pedestrians, cyclists or as a passenger and how they can keep themselves safe.
Year 5 took part in a practical roadside session where they put the Green Cross Code into practice and were all Road Safety superstars crossing the road. Encouraging your children to share what they have learnt, and your repetition of the Green Cross Code can help their road safety.

This week, we had an inter-house competition for dodgeball. Everyone worked hard in their teams and demonstrated excellent skills throwing and dodging the balls. It was great to see everyone working as a team.
Lunar Buggy Parent Event
The sun shone, the White Court Lunar Mechanics were in full flow and the air crackled with anticipation as the parents arrived. The first task was to check that the buggies were in full working order before testing their ability to cross a variety of terrains (flour, cat litter, ropes, steep inclines and luscious green grass on the school field). During this testing stage, the pit stop was visited on many occasions to replace batteries, fix wheels and change wires but plenty of fun was had by all! The most important part of the afternoon was...the race! Toucans, Meerkats and Hummingbirds identified their fastest buggy through a rigorous challenge across the playground before the FINAL race of the day. This was an extremely tense moment with a photo finish and questions asked by the teams. However, after consulting VAR, it was decided that each team had demonstrated great endurance and super racing qualities and therefore it was deemed a three-way draw!
A special thank you to all of the adults that came to share our learning and have some fun.
Year 5 have had an amazing Autumn Term. We are so proud of what the children have achieved. We hope everyone has an amazing Christmas break and New Year and look forward to welcoming you all back in 2025!
Here are a few pictures from our Christmas Celebration this week. I hope you will agree that the children sounded amazing and their cinquains were fantastic too!
Viking Day 2024
Year 5 had a fantastic History off the Page Viking Day!
RE
We had a visit from Sheena and Katie. We talked about the big question 'Is believing in God reasonable?'. All of the children listened well and had some interesting, thoughtful questions which Sheena and Katie answered.
