Toucans

Week 7 - Computing

Toucan class are having an absolutely wonderful time producing stop motion animations using Purple Mash.

We have finished our polar bears! This week, we painted modroc white and added their features - look at their faces and feet! We are SO proud of our work!

Week 6 - Making our Polar Bears

We had a fabulous (and messy time) making our 3D polar bears out of recycled newspaper and modroc as part of our Exploring Global Issues through Art. During our Parent Consultation Evening, you will be able to see our finished products.

Week 5 - Art Parent Event: Thank you so much to the adults for helping us recreate a Toucan in the style of Yayoi Kasuma. They look amazing!

Week 4

PSHE - Rules

In PSHE, we looked at why we have rules and how they keep us safe from harm, give us the right to be treated fairly and the right to be heard in all parts of society. We recognised that there are rules everywhere we go, e.g. the beach, the zoo, the airport, school and home.

In small groups, we chose one or two items and created a game. We established the rules for playing the game and a scoring system. Most of all...we had great fun playing

Art

Today, we were set the challenge to construct a 3D polar bear (that would stand up on its own) from recycled newspapers and masking tape. We worked as part of a group and had 20 to complete the task. Look at our finished products - they look pretty good! We are now looking forward to constructing our very own polar bear, in a few weeks time!

Week 3 – Air Resistance - In Science this week, we tested the parachutes that we had made the week before. We used the wall bars in the Sports Hall as they are the highest place we could think of. We tested each parachute three times to make it a fair test and to make sure we did not get any anomalies in our results. We discovered that the large parachutes fell the slowest as their larger surface area created more air resistance which slowed the fall. On the other hand, the smallest parachutes fell fastest due to their smaller surface area.

Week 1/2 - Our Science topic this term is Forces. We have had great fun learning about Sir Isaac Newton and gravity. We used Newton meters to look at the relationship between an object's mass (kg/g) and its weight (Newtons). We have also been learning about air resistance. We have made a variety of parachutes to test next week so watch this space....
