Spring 2

Week 6 - We were incredibly lucky to be visited by the fantastic Wonderdome this morning. The children were so engaged and loved learning some new facts about Space. The photos don't do the amazing experience justice, as we even got to go on a rollercoaster through Space! In PE the children enjoyed using a racket to hit the ball to their partner over a net. To finish our DT unit we made a wrap using the ingredients from our plan and put into practice our cutting, slicing, grating and peeling skills. The best bit was eating it! Finally, on Friday we went to the Church to listen to why Christians celebrate Easter. We partnered with a year 5 from Meercats class and walked super sensibly with our new friend.

Week 5 - The children loved national skipping day and we got some great action shot photos! In Maths we are learning about weight and the children enjoyed looking at how heavy and light objects were in Forest School and choosing objects to measure and compare. In guided reading we learnt about static electricity and used a balloon to demonstrate static electricity on our hair. Finally we've had some more lovely book recommendations - Hugo recommends 'Awesome jokes that every 5 year old should know' because it's funny. Alice recommends 'Sugarlump and the unicorn' because it has a unicorn in it. Eli recommends 'Silly jokes for 6 year olds' because it's funny.

Week 3 - In DT we have practised our finger fluency for grating, peeling, slicing, cutting, spreading and folding ready to make out own wraps in a few weeks. In Maths we are learning about length and today we looked at taller and shorter. We enjoyed deciding which child was taller and shorter and even managed to get into a class height order! We then practised in pairs using multi link towers using the language 'taller' and 'shorter'. This week's book recommendations - Isla recommends 'The dinky donkey' because it's funny. Nellie recommends 'Peter Rabbit starting school' as it's about school. Ben recommends 'Benjamin, Santa's needs your help!' As it's all about him! Mia recommends 'The funny fingers are having a party!' as you have to search and find different things.

Week 2 - In Science we have been learning about seasonal changes and how animals hibernate in Autumn to protect themselves. We loved visiting Forest School to build dens to cement our learning. In PE we enjoyed practicing net and wall games in the sunshine. Lots more lovely book recommendations this week. Kelsey recommends 'The elves and the shoemaker' as it's all about shoes. Lia recommends 'One million kisses' as it's about love. Alfie recommends 'The dinosaur that pooped a pirate' because it's funny. Millie recommends 'Ten minutes to bed little mermaid' as it's calming. Alice recommends 'Little people big dreams - Marie Curie' because it's about Science. Austin recommends 'Bluey the doctor' as it's a new book. The children love bringing their books in and all the children really love listening to the stories.

Week 1 - This week in Maths we have had lots of fun learning numbers up to 50. In pairs we played snakes and ladders on a board to 50. We concentrated really hard for a game of Bingo. We worked in teams to roll the dice and add counters to 5 tens frames to be the first team to reach 50 counters! In DT we are learning about portable snacks. We enjoyed exploring and evaluating (but not eating!) different portable snacks like sausage rolls, pork pie, samosa, sandwich and wrap. Most of us thought the samosa smelt disgusting! The children are still loving the book recommendations. Hugo recommends 'Commotion in the Ocean' to learn about different animals that live in the ocean. Franklin recommends 'Funny Jokes for 8 year olds' as it's funny. Marshall recommends 'The dinosaur that pooped Halloween' for the lift the flaps. Rosie recommends 'Rosie, Santa needs your help' as it's all about her!
