Ladybird Class

Week Seven

This week, we have started a new unit on poetry. Today, we enjoyed looking at lots of different poems. By the end of the unit, we will be writing our own feelings poems.

Florence Nightingale Day

Art - Autumn 1

We have enjoyed sketching leaves in Art. We have also used the technique of 'wax resist' to create colour leaf pictures.

Week Six

Today in Science we learnt about John McAdam and investigated how to build the strongest road. We had 3 ingredients to use: chocolate, raisins and biscuits. Using these ingredients, we then made three different roads:

- Chocolate

- Chocolate and biscuits

- Chocolate, biscuits and raisins

We predicted which road was the strongest and then tested the strength of our roads using weights. Which road do you think was the strongest?!

Week Five

In History, we have been learning about Florence Nightingale and Mary Seacole. Today we worked in partners to put key events into chronological order.

Week Four

We read our amazing non-chronological reports about Ladybirds to Butterflies and Wolves!

Week Four

This week, we took a trip to the church to learn all about Harvest. Thank you so much to those who have brought in donations smiley

Week Three

This week, Ladybird Class have thoroughly enjoyed testing different materials to explore how objects can be changed by stretching. The children had a selection of materials and were asked to complete a 'stretch test'! They worked in pairs, with one child holding the top of the material and the other child stretching it to see how far it could go. They measured how long each material stretched with a ruler to compare and work out which was the most stretchy.

Week Two

In Science, we have been learning about materials. Today we compared the strength of four different materials - paper, card, wood and tin foil. We did this by working in teams to build bridges. Once we had finished building them, we tested them by balancing cubes on top.

Week One

We have had a fabulous first week in Ladybird Class. I am super proud of all of the children for their positive attitudes to new Year Two learning!

In Computing, we spoke about self-identity. We designed our own avatars and played a game where we had to guess which avatar was which person. Take a look at some of our avatars below.
