Welcome to Hummingbird Class
We hope you enjoy looking at what we have been doing and finding out about what we have learnt.
Week 7 - Computing
Hummingbird class are having an absolutely wonderful time producing stop motion animations using Purple Mash.
Week 6
As part of the Art unit - Using Art for Global Issues we created our own polar bears. We used newspaper and tape to make the shape and then covered them in Modroc. Next week, we will be painting them and adding facial features. We showed great resilience during the lesson and helped each other too.
Week 5
In English, we worked in pairs to research facts for our persuasive speech. We are now in the process of writing our speeches and will be presenting them soon.
On Thursday, we enjoyed painting Hummingbirds in the style of Yayoi Kusama. Some of our parents and grandparents came in to help us.

Week 4
In Art, we have been looking at how art can express and raise awareness for global issues. We looked at the artist Faith Bebbington and explored her wonderful polar bear creation. This week, we worked in groups to make a 3D sculpture of a polar bear using newspaper and tape.
Week 3 – Air Resistance - In Science this week, we tested the parachutes that we had made the week before. We used the wall bars in the Sports Hall as they are the highest place we could think of. We tested each parachute three times to make it a fair test and to make sure we did not get any anomalies in our results. We discovered that the larger parachutes fell the slowest as their large surface area created more air resistance which slowed the fall. On the other hand, the smallest parachutes fell fastest due to their smaller surface area.
Week 1/2
We have all had an amazing start to Year 5. We have started our topics for Art, Science and History. In Art, we have looked at polar bears and had a go at sketching them. In Science, we talked about gravity and air resistance for the unit Forces. In PE, we explored symmetrical and asymmetrical balances in gymnastics.
