3.7.26 - D.T. - pneumatic lifting device
With some perseverance, we created a frame to support a piston and cylinder which used pneumatics to move a lifting arm up and down.

1.6.26 - Geography - Festival of Fieldwork
Today we conducted fieldwork in our local area. We found different road names using a map and then used digimaps on the chromebooks to find out where these road names originated from. Did you know that all of the White Court road names are named after lakes, valleys and towns in the Lake District?

22.4.26 - Music
In music, we listened to Unsquare Dance by Dave Brubeck which has an ostinato (repeating pattern) that runs throughout the piece of music. We used the percussion instruments to make our own ostinatos.

16.4.26 - Take One Piece
For this term’s Take One Piece in Art we are studying photographer Jordi Koalitic who thinks creatively using props and forced perspective to create seemingly impossible pictures!

26.3.26 - Pond Dipping
We visited Maisie’s Garden to go pond dipping and found a variety of creatures. We explored to see if different animals lived in the shallow water, deeper water or around the edge. We are so lucky to have Maisie’s Garden at White Court and the children were all incredibly sensible around the water.

As part of our Take One Piece Art project, we studied Dale Chihuly and how he uses glass to mark art. We used paint pens to decorate glass jars and saw how they look different when light travels through them.

20.3.26 - plinth people
In Art, we have been looking at how plinths help elevate artwork to make it appear more important. We made our own plinths from clay and then created a statue by bending wire. We tried to give our sculptures shapes that made it seem like they were moving. We then wrapped our creations in linen before making them clothes from a variety of materials.

The children have been practising a range of songs and performed them beautifully.

10.10.26 - Colchester Castle
Today we had great fun visiting Colchester Castle. We saw loads of Roman artefacts and were able to link our learning from school about the Roman’s invasion of Britain to the exhibits in the museum. The museum staff told us about Boudicca of the Iceni tribe rebelling and fighting against the Romans. Thank you to our parent helpers for coming with us and to Mrs Rolfe-Adams for organising the trip.

23.2.26 - English
In English we looked at the legend of Robin Hood. First, we drew pictures to represent different parts of the story; in groups, we then acted out each picture as a freeze frame.

2.2.26 - Science
We have been studying electrical circuits in Science and the components that are used to make them. Today, we looked at how switches can make a circuit complete or incomplete and used some insulating and conducting materials to make switches of our own.

Over the last few lessons, we have been looking at ‘still life’ and have drawn a plate of fruit. Today, we turned our sketches into a clay tile.

We have finished writing our own poems in groups of two and three. We then performed them to the class; we changed the volume, speed and expression of our voices and introduced facial expressions and actions too.

Year 4 made traditional mince pies today as the fluency part of learning to make pastry and a festive treat. Net week, pupils will be creating their own version of a hand held sweet pastry for their final piece.

26.11.25 - P.E./History
Today, we combined History and P.E. and took part in The Olympic Games. We took part in chariot racing, discus, javelin, long jump, sprinting, archery and tug of war. We thought it was the best P.E. lesson ever!

10.11.25 - Odd Sock Day
Today, we celebrated Odd Sock Day as part of anti-bullying week. We talked about why we are all unique and how we can use our voice for the 'Power of Good' which is this year's theme.
