Miss Castleman's Diary

Wednesday 8th July

Hey 6C,

I've been back to work with some of the Year 6s last week and this week which has been AMAZING! I didn't realise how much I had missed you. I have been so busy with work tasks that I haven't managed to complete all my challenges yet :(

I'm a little worried I won't have them all done by the end of the term but will try to do some over the summer. I will add any photos etc on here so you can check back to see if I've done yours yet :S

Gabriella challenged me to make a cake so below is a cake I made for a family BBQ (to celebrate my youngest sister becoming a teacher, it was delicious).

Although it isn't his main challenge Tom sent me a link to a flag quiz that you can all have a go at. He got full marks but I only got 18 how shocking is that!! The link:

Wednesday 24th June

Hey 6C,

Hope you are all enjoying this glorious sunshine, just had a chat with Thomas and he was in his pool - I wasn't jealous at all!! I have also spoke to Anastasia and Carter today too :) Don't forget you can E-mail me now on Purple Mash - I have had lovely e-mails from Tom, Toby and Logan already and they cheered me right up. Toby beat me and Mr Pruce on the Harry Potter character quiz - he got 135!

I also need to remind you to send a picture and your favourite memories to Mr Pryke so he can add them to the Year Book - please get them done ASAP or there is a chance you won't appear and that will be a shame :(

So Enya set me the challenge of completing a chocolate bar quiz and I thought 'Ah that will be easy - I'll smash that' - turns out it is sooooo much harder than I thought.

There are 20 chocolate bars and you have to guess what they are, I got 12 out of 20. I have added the quiz, my guesses and the answers below so that you can have a go too. Good Luck :)

Monday 15th June

Hey 6C,

Sorry I haven't updated my diary in a while, time has swept passed this last week. I have been good, keeping busy with lots of school work and Zoom meetings. I have had phone calls with a few of you today and towards the end of last week: Jake, Martha, Molly, Harrison and Eva. I have also completed a couple more tasks and today is all about quizzes!

Anastasia set me the task of completing a Harry Potter quiz and I got so excited I actually done a few, so thought I'd share them with you:

Quiz 1: You have 18 minutes to name as many Harry Potter characters as you can from the books and films. There are 200 to get!!

My score: 110/120 (Mr Pruce got 125 and I was really sad that he beat me)

Quiz 2: You have 6 minutes to name what the things are that are listed.

My score: 21/24

Quiz 3: This is a picture quiz, you have 5 minutes to name the people, places or things that are in the close-up pictures.

My score: 22/25

Quiz 4: This is a sorting quiz. You have 7 minutes to sort the Harry Potter related terms in their correct categories.   .

My score: 75/78

Quiz 5: Harry Potter Pictograms. You have 6 minutes to try to work out what each set of pictures stands for - it is actually very tricky

My score: 13/16

Let me know how you get on via Purple Mash e-mail and enjoy :)

Monday 8th June

Good afternoon 6C,

So sorry I forgot to put up a diary entry last Friday when I spoke to Harry, Elissa, George and Charlotte. They were lovely phone calls as usual and really cheered me up. I told Charlotte that you can continue to E-mail me on Purple Mash and that can be our way of contact if you rather that than phone calls.

Over the weekend, I met up with some of my teacher friends and we wrapped up warm and sat in a garden 2m apart, it was really tough as two of them have babies and I really, really, really wanted a cuddle with them (hopefully one day soon). I also did lots of housework and had a Zoom party with my family for my sister's birthday. Hope you all had a wonderful weekend too.

Today I have chatted to Gabriella, Conner, John and Grace (who has a beautiful new pony called Dixie - see below).

Toby also sent me a picture of his new puppy Skye who is adorable (see below).

Speak soon - Miss Castleman

Wednesday 3rd June

Hey 6C,

I hope you have all had an amazing Half Term and are enjoying this week's home learning. I was busy over half term getting jobs done in my home: tidying and sorting stuff mainly. I am now on 'Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix' so getting through them quite swiftly now.  I've been trying to keep up with my Bootcamp and have even tried Yoga. I was hoping to get some of my baking tasks done but unfortunately Tescos have run out of key ingredients that I need but I did buy an electric whisk ready for when I attempt them. Today, I had a Zoom meeting with all the other staff members talking about what school will be like when and if you choose to return when we can. I also chatted to a few of you on the phone: Carlin, Yinny, Tom and Louie (it's Louie's birthday today so that was good timing for my call - again I refrained from singing haha).

Ellessia set me the task of writing a follow up story of Harry Potter. I sat down and attempted it but it was soooooo difficult and I could never be as good as J.K.Rowling. So instead I thought I would have some fun with Harry Potter that you can join in with if you want to. I wrote some riddles!! WARNING: Some spoilers if you haven't read/watched all the books/films!

So I thought we could have a point scoring system. Depending on which clue you guess it correctly on you will earn that number of points:

Clue 1: 12 points

Clue 2: 10 points

Clue 3: 8 points

Clue 4: 6 points

Clue 5: 4points

Clue 6: 2 points

Let me know your final scores and if you want to send me your own Harry Potter riddles to share with the class please E-mail me on Purple Mash. Don't forget more difficult clues to start and get easier as the riddle goes along.

Wednesday 20th May

Hey 6C,

Hope you are all OK and enjoying the glorious sunshine. I had a rather quiet weekend actually and spent most of it reading. I'm on Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire (fourth one) so speeding through. I love the books so much and forgot so many characters that are not in the films like Peeves (the pesky poltergeist). Today I have had some Zoom meetings with the other teachers and LSAs and over the last couple of days I have spoken to a few more of you: Amy, Enya, Anastasia, Martha and Freya. You have all been so lovely on the phone and always ask how I am too. Hope you are enjoying the home learning - please send me anything you have got up to via Purple Mash, I would love to see it.

So Alfie set me the task to make something and let you all judge me (like in Bake Off). So I attempted to make meringue about a week ago - it came out brown (probably the whitest food you can get and I made it brown!!) So I attempted it again today and if your parents have ever tried whisking egg whites by hand (as I don't bake, I don't have any of the equipment) they will know how hard it was. I honestly felt like i had boxed Anthony Joshua, my arms were hurting so much. I'm glad to say it was far more successful. I decided to make Banana and Toffee Eton Messes as I love banana flavoured foods and I could actually get away with it looking a mess - because it is supposed to. So let me know what you think via E-mail on Purple Mash or on our next phone call.

Friday 15th May

Happy Friday 6C - end of the week woohoo!!

It was lovely catching up with a few of you today: Alfie, Logan, Ellessia, Thomas and Imogen and hearing all about your week. Alfie is very excited as he has a new puppy called Teddy. I have attached a photo below. I completed your P.E. lesson Tom and even the warm-up was hard!! I have attached it below if anyone else wants to have a go.

This month is Well-being May and Mrs Ball has organised some different activities for our and your well-being. Today's task was to make an A-Z of what makes you happy, so I had a go at this and have attached it below for you to look at. I have set this for Home Learning on Thursday so think about what you might include over the next few days. Have an amazing weekend 6C and I will speak to you again next week.

Miss C x

Thursday 14th May

So today I caught up with lots of work on my laptop including reports so didn't have time to ring anyone - will make a few calls tomorrow.

Tom sent me his P.E. workout so will also give that a go tomorrow - I'll let you know how I get on. I have also been sent some lovely pictures of Imogen working hard on her home learning which was really lovely to see. Thank you to those of you now E-mailing me from Purple Mash - it's a good way to keep in touch.

Right, today I also attempted Eva's challenge which was to make a stack of pancakes for breakfast. Now I have never made pancakes and you're about to see why (I am a rubbish cook!). My first attempt was soooo bad that it ended up in the bin, if I'm honest it looked like scrambled egg. My second attempt wasn't much better and it looked like a toddler had already started eating it. I'm pretty proud of my final attempt considering how awful I actually am and I must say it was delicious. Eva, I know you specifically said a stack but after so many shocking attempts, I only had enough batter to make 1 pancake and a bit (I hope this counts) I covered mine in maple syrup and Nutella - Yum! I won't bother giving you the recipe as I'm sure you don't want it hahah. So many of you have set me cooking tasks - surely I can only get better, can't I?

Wednesday 13th May

Hey 6C,

Hope you have all seen the poem Mr Pruce, Miss Lomas and I wrote for you for this week - seems so strange not being in the midst of SATs. I have had a busy few days. I've been in school looking after the keyworker children Monday and Tuesday and been on the phone lots today. I have spoken to Jake, Dakota, Toby, Harrison and Molly and they updated me with what they have been getting up to. I have also had two Zoom meetings today with the Year 6 team and all the other teachers so was really lovely to see everyone. I want to say a massive thank you to Ellessia for my beautiful card that she sent into school for me, it was so wonderful to receive such kind words in such a sad time.

As I was in school, I thought it would be a good idea to complete Charlotte's challenge which was to build something out of cardboard. I decided to build volcanoes with the children. We used cardboard, newspaper and Modroc to make the structure. Once it was dry, we painted the structure brown and used syringes to add red and orange paint for the lava effect. When that was dry, we used bicarb of soda, vinegar and red food colouring to make them erupt. It was so much fun so thank you Charlotte for the great idea. I have attached the photos below to show you all.

Thursday 7th May

Hey 6C,

Hope you are all OK and enjoying the sunshine. Just a reminder that you can now directly E-Mail me on Purple Mash (type in e-mail in the search box and click 2e-mail), you can send me documents, work, pictures, questions about home learning etc

I have been busy with school work today: report writing and course deadlines. Hope you liked the home learning tasks and have a lot planned for tomorrow's celebrations!

Today, I had another zoom meeting with the Year 6 Team, Mrs Perry and Mrs Bartlett say hello and that they miss you all very much. I have also spoken to a few more of you today: Gabriella, Freya, Carlin Amy and Elissa (it's Elissa's birthday so made sure her phone call was planned for today - I refrained from singing down the phone, I didn't want to hurt Elissa's ears).

I'm sure you have now all seen my dancing on Mr Pryke's video on the school website - hope I did Year 6 proud!

Harry sent me his 'Tornado PowerPoint' and it was brilliant - it was very clear and informative so well done Harry!

Ellessia set me the task to go on a colour walk, to see how many colours I could find in nature around where I live. I actually managed to find nearly all colours and it made my daily walk that bit more special - perhaps you can try it on your next walk. Below I have attached photos of all the colours that I found.

Hope you all have a wonderful Bank Holiday Weekend and enjoy celebrating the anniversary of VE Day. I am in school at the beginning of next week so will catch up with you all on Wednesday xx

Tuesday 5th May

Good afternoon 6C,

So this morning I did a live workout with a bootcamp friend over video call and it was very tough, especially after all the circuit work yesterday. After I do bootcamp,  I like to go for a little jog to loosen up my legs so they don't go too stiff. I thought this was a good time to complete Harrison's task which was to go for a run around the field behind where I live. The field is a little bit bigger than the school field (I have attached some photos below that I got off Google Maps to show you- I think the perimeter is 150 metres longer).

It was lovely to catch up with a few of you today: John, Tom, Charlotte and Anastasia (I didn't get the usual 'OH NO' today which was nice haha).

Carter asked me to complete some online Maths games and post my scores so you can try to beat me (again many of you will as I have apparently lost my 'teacher mind' not being at school).

First, I played 'Fractonio's Pizzeria' on Purple Mash - I chose the hardest level and my results are below. You have to make pizza for customers and look at their orders carefully as they are in percent and fractions.

Next I played a beat the clock game on MyMaths, if you click in games>beat the clocks>play game. I chose the 'percentages game' which can be found under the 'Number' tab and I have posted my results below. I actually got full marks on this (woohoo) so you'll need to match me - GAME ON!!

If you beat me on anything, please let me know on our next phone call or you can e-mail me on Purple Mash yourselves. (Click in computing and then on 2Email).

Stay safe and I'll catch up soon.

Miss Castleman

Monday 4th May

Hey 6C,

Hope you had a lovely weekend - the weather seems to be getting a bit better again woohoo!!

I've spoken to a few more of you today: Martha, Grace, George, Yinny and Enya, and got some more challenges and tasks to do to keep me busy.

So Imogen and Harry set me the task to complete the circuit challenge you all had last week for P.E. and my goodness it was so tough. So I have put my scores for each station below. As you can see I was rubbish at the 'Rock Back Jumps' - I only managed 10!! Have a go at beating me if you haven't already (I'm sure you will as I am too old now haha).

Louie set me the challenge of how many push-ups I could do in a minute so I have attached the video below, again I'm sure you will all beat me lol.

How many can you do?

Friday 1st May

Oh dear...just realised I had the wrong date up on yesterday's diary entry (losing track of which day is which at the moment!!).

So today I have been busy catching up with work again and rang a few more of you: Eva, Harry, Harrison, Louie and Connor - it was fantastic chatting with you all. I have been given some more tasks to do so will crack on with some over the weekend. Some of you have given me similar tasks so will group you together so I'm not repeating myself lol.

How awful is the weather now - just listening to it outside my window. I wonder who has been jumping in muddy puddles like Peppa Pig haha.

I have received some fantastic E-mails from some of you so thank you - I really love seeing them.

Martha sent me an e-mail and pictures of what she has been up to: painting rocks and acrylic artwork. I have attached pictures below.

Toby sent me his Flashback Story and i was blown away. So descriptive and emotional - it really nearly made me cry. I have attached below so that you all can have a read of it if you would like. Keep up the good work 6C, have a great weekend and I'll be back on here and calling some more of you next week.

Thursday 30th April

Hey 6C,

Sorry I have been quiet this week. Sadly, I haven't been home because I have been to a funeral. However, today I have been really busy with work so kept my mind active.

I spoke to the Year 6 team again this morning on Zoom (video call) and then had another Zoom meeting with some more teachers at school - I had to get dressed and brush my hair specially haha.

I also rang a few of you today: Molly, Ellessia, Imogen, Alfie and Carter. I have my first 5 challenges/tasks and I must say I'm very excited about it.

Molly gave me the task to do some colouring-in. Before lockdown, I had bought a 'Colour by Numbers' book (see below) so chose one of those to do. It was very calming and I asked Alexa to play the sounds of the ocean while I did it - it was lovely to completely switch off so thank you Molly!!

Eva, I have received your Van Gogh poem (see below) and I absolutely loved it - what a creative way to display your findings. I wonder what the rest of you did.

Tom W - your cheesecake looked amazing. If we end up back at school I will be first in line to try some :)

Please keep showing me on Twitter or via the Home Learning e-mail address what you have been up to.

Speak soon

Miss C

Friday 24th April

So today, I have to admit, has been a work in my pyjama day but sometimes I think it's good to stay cosy when you're not feeling yourself. I have spent the day on my laptop doing school work and continuing my lovely phone calls to you: Anastasia, Logan and Grace I got to have a chat with you guys today. Anastasia always responds to a call from me with a very loud 'OH NO' haha and I have to keep reminding her she's not in trouble. Grace told me all the wonderful things she has been getting up to out in the glorious sunshine and the only word I got out of Logan was 'OK' haha.

Well, I'm looking forward to all the activities, challenges and tasks you may have in store for me next week. If anyone speaks to John, Luca, Jake, Yinny, Dakota or Elissa please let them know about the this so they can have a think about it over the weekend.

I won't be updating the diary over the weekend so please continue to enjoy the sunshine and I'll be back on, on Monday.

Miss C

Thursday 23rd April

Hey guys,

So today has been much of the same - started the day with another bootcamp session and this time it was LIVE so I had nowhere to hide, Miss Smithson is also part of my bootcamp group so was lovely to see her working out just as hard as me.

Following that, I rang a few more of you: Charlotte, Toby, Carlin, Enya, Freya, Gabriella and George (I spoke to his mum) it was great to catch up with you all. I found out even more of you have been baking - you'll all be able to apply to 'Junior Bake Off' at this rate. Carlin told me he hasn't been doing any baking, his sister has been baking he has been eating haha!

The rest of the day was work, work, work, even us teachers have home learning! I am now going to stop for the day, read some more of my book (I'm on book 2!!) and have some dinner.

I hope you all got to enjoy a bit of that amazing sunshine today. Who completed an obstacle course (today's P.E. lesson)? Let me know on Twitter if you can @CastlemanMiss

I only have a few more of you to ring tomorrow but can't wait to hear what you have been up to.

Miss C

Wednesday 22nd April

Hey 6C,

Another busy, busy day for me. Started it off with another bootcamp session followed by another run (if it wasn't for all the eating I've been doing I could give Usain Bolt a run for his money haha). Then I got on and rang a few more of you: Martha, Amy, Connor, Eva, Harry, Tom and Molly - thank you for taking the time to chat to me today. I especially enjoyed Martha's funny story about her brother - MUM!!!! haha

I then continued with some more report writing and read some more Harry Potter (I only have 2 chapters left of the first book, do we think I can read all 7 before lockdown ends?)

As some of you know, I love candles so have 2 large lanterns in my living room so I also gave them a good clean out. One of my candles has melted into a weird shape - see below.

Over the last couple of days some of my friends have sent me little surprises in the post (see pic below of an example from some of the teachers at school) and it really, really made me smile. Your task on Friday is to send a letter to a family member or friend. Perhaps you can send them a little surprise to make them smile: perhaps a bookmark, friendship bracelet etc that you have made and can include in the envelope.

Anyway, that's all from me - hopefully will chat to a few more of you tomorrow.

Miss C

Tuesday 21st April

Hello 6C,

Hope you are all well and back into some sort of routine now that home learning has started. Please don't feel pressured to do it all but keeping your minds active will really benefit you in this weird time we are all in. Hope you enjoyed pulling plants apart today :)

I have been quite busy today, started it off with a bootcamp session and a quick sprint around the field behind my home. Then I gave some of you a quick ring - Alfie, Harrison, Louie, Ellessia, Thomas, Imogen and Carter it was lovely catching up with you all. Nice to hear some of you have learned new skills and lots of you are baking. Louie tells me his new skill is getting better at the Playstation haha.

I have also had a Zoom call with the Year 6 Team: Mr Pruce, Miss Lomas, Mrs Perry and Mrs Bartlett. It was so nice to see them all and Mr Pruce looks soooo different after cutting all his hair off!!

After lunch, I have got on with some school report writing (dun dun dun) and read some more chapters from Harry Potter with many, many cups of tea.

Well can't wait to speak to some more of you tomorrow. Hope you have a good evening.

Miss C

Monday 20th April

Hi 6C,

I hope you've all had a lovely Easter despite having to stay at home and more importantly you ate lots and lots of chocolate. I have been a little bit quiet over the Easter holiday as unfortunately one of my family members passed away. As you can imagine this has made me quite sad. However, I have been trying to keep my mind busy by cleaning ( I know that's boring to lots of you haha), keeping fit and re-reading Harry Potter - Elissa, Anastasia and Amy I know you will be loving this!!

I have really enjoyed seeing what you have got up to on Twitter - I have seen Toby's art work, Freya doing some home learning and lots from Harry - so keep it coming; it really cheers me up.Also, please send anything to the home learning e-mail that you would like me to see and make sure you say it's for Miss Castleman.

Hope you are all enjoying the home learning, I know it's not the same as having 'the best teacher ever' but we've tried to make it as engaging as possible.

I will be ringing you all again this week so if you have any suggestions as to what I can do to keep myself busy please let me know.

Miss you all so much - yes all of you :)

Miss Castleman
